As you can read in this excerpt, the author is telling about children raised in Brooklyn in a particular period of time... how they remember Thanksgiving Day and what they used to do:<em> went around “ragamuffin” or “slamming gates,” wearing costumes. </em>The author is informing, as we do not have knowledge of this information, unless we live in Brooklyn or someone else has already told us. The author is not persuading, as he is not using a tone of: <em>asking for something, </em>or convincing us to do something. The author isn't analyzing either as he is not mentioning some sources of his investigation, for example. And finally every publication has to have a purpose, whether for analyzing or informing, so <em>to publish </em>will be the least compatible as this is not considered a purpose itself.
