Answer:

The numbers are 2 and 3.

Step-by-step explanation:

The smaller number would have been 1 less than the bigger number so that if for example the smaller number is 1 and the bigger number is 2, their difference would have been 1-2 = -1

5 is an odd number so if it were to be divided into two integers, one would be more than the other, namely 2 and 3.

If you double-check their difference:

2-3 = -1

Thus, the two numbers are 2 and 3.

I guessed “doesn’t matter” but I really want to know why it might be that
chubhunter [2.5K]
I'm sorry, but the spinner that you choose does matter in this case.

For spinner A, there are 5 equal sections with a 1 being in only one of them as well. This gives you a \frac{1}{5} chance of landing on the number 1.

For spinner B, there are 6 equal sections with a 1 being in only one of them. This gives you a \frac{1}{6} chance of landing on the number 1 - a worse chance than if you were to use spinner A.

So for this question, you have a better chance of landing on number 1 if you choose to use spinner A.

One number is six times another number. Their difference is 35. What are the two numbers?
konstantin123 [22]

x - y = 35
x = 6y
Plug 6y in for x in the first equation.
6y - y = 35
5y = 35
Divide both sides by 5
y = 7
x = 6y
x = 6(7) = 42
42 and 7
Letter C
Since we had the answers we could have just tried the answers but you will not always have multiple choice so this is the method for solving.

Solve the following problem. Give the equation using x as the variable, and give the answer.
Vinil7 [7]

Answer:

A. 3x + (x+8) = -22 - 2x

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the number equal x.

Set up the first half of the equation.

The sum of three times the number and 8 more than the number can be written as:

3x + (x+8)

Sum means that you add the components.

Set up the second half of the equation.

The difference between -22 and twice the number can be written as:

-22 - 2x

Difference means subtraction, and because -22 is written first, that is the number that you subtract from.

If you set the halves of the equation equal, you get:

3x + (x+8) = -22 - 2x

Therefore, the answer is A.
