Lizzie has 30 coins that total $4.80. All of her coins are dimes, D, and quarters, Q. Algebraically determine how many of each t
Gnom [1K]

Lizzie has 18 dimes and 12 quarters

Solution:

Let "d" be the number of dimes

Let "q" be the number of quarters

We know that,

value of 1 dime = $ 0.10

value of 1 quarter = $ 0.25

Given that LIzzie has 30 coins

number of dimes + number of quarters = 30

d + q = 30 ---- eqn 1

Also given that the coins total $ 4.80

number of dimes x value of 1 dime + number of quarters x value of 1 quarter = 4.80

d \times 0.10 + q \times 0.25 = 4.80

0.1d + 0.25q = 4.8 ------ eqn 2

Let us solve eqn 1 and eqn 2

From eqn 1,

d = 30 - q ---- eqn 3

Substitute eqn 3 in eqn 2

0.1(30 - q) + 0.25q = 4.8

3 - 0.1q + 0.25q = 4.8

0.15q = 1.8

q = 12

From eqn 3,

d = 30 - 12

d = 18

Thus she has 18 dimes and 12 quarters

if i I wanted to be precise, how can I express the exact circumference for the circumference given the diameter
sveticcg [70]
The formula for circumference is \pi d.

To express the circumference exactly, plug the diameter in for d and put the \pi symbol in front of it. Don't multiply. This expresses the exact circumference.

Say you have the diameter of 17.
You can express the circumference with 17\pi.

Which of the following could be the equation for a parabola that opens down with the vertex (-11,-28)?
Mekhanik [1.2K]

Answer:y=-5(x+11)^2 -28

Step-by-step explanation: Okay think about what you know about translations and transformations of parent functions. In this case, the parent function is x2. So what now?

First, the problem states that the parabola opens DOWN. This means that you should look for a negative leading coefficient. This narrows your options down to C or D. (-5 is the leading coefficient)

Now starting with the x2, the vertex would be at (0,0), but in this problem it is at (-11,-28). That means it was TRANSLATED 11 spots in the negative x-direction and 28 spots in the negative y-direction.

Look at your options, when a number is being added directly unto the x variable, such as in answer C, it moves in the negative x-direction. This tells you that C has to be your answer.

I hope that helps!
