In an experiment, using the elodea stalk, you are able to expose more underlying tissue and the process can be executed more quickly and it's easy to replicate the natural position for a more realistic result.

Survival of the strongest... an organisms strength does not affect the natural selection process. Natural selection is adapting the species to be able to better survive in its environment. In order to better survive, an organism does not to be strong. e.g. a plant is probably not a “strong” organism and natural selection doesn’t change that in most cases
The Bear population would increase due the the raise in the salmon population.
Oceans will increase in temperature due to global warming. This will adversely effect cold water species such as the humpback whale and increase the territory of larger warm water predetors like sharks.
