Mike is doing a project for science class. He is making an analogy of a cell and relating it to the structure and function of a

city. He is looking for a building to represent the mitochondria. Which building in a city has a similar function and would best represent the role of the mitochondria in the cell?

Answer: Mitochondria are organelles that make energy for a cell; they are inherited from ... In this chapter, we will look at the structure and function of the eukaryotic cell. ... to functions of a city to emphasize that all parts are needed. ... We begin by looking at ... cell, as he peered through a primitive microscope of his own construction.

Answer: Friction

Explanation:

The friction force is the force exerted by a surface as an object moves across it or makes an effort to move across it. There are at least two types of friction force - sliding and static friction. Though it is not always the case, the friction force often opposes the motion of an object.

a 1.34kg block sliding on a horizontal surface collides with a spring of force constant 1.93 N/cm. The block compresses the spri
sdas [7]

Answer:

v=65m/s

Explanation:

Friction force to find the speed of the block at the instant of collision so

E_1=\frac{1}{2}*K*x^2

x=4.16cm

E_1=\frac{1}{2}*1.93N/cm*(4.16cm)^2

E_1=0.167 J

E_2=117mJ=0.117J

K_E=E_1+E_2=284J

K_E=\frac{1}{2}*m*v^2

Solve to v' to find the velocity

v=\sqrt{\frac{2*K_E}{m}}

v=\sqrt{\frac{2*0.283J}{1.34kg}}=\sqrt{0.424 m^2/s^2}

The speed of the block at the instant of collision with the spring is

v=65m/s

A potato was launched from a potato launcher straight up in the air at the velocity of 35 m/s. How long will it take for the pot
SashulF [63]

The potato reach a velocity of 0 m/s after 3.57 s

Explanation:

There is only one force acting on the potato, which is in free fall: the force of gravity, acting downward. Therefore, the motion of the potato is a free fall motion with constant acceleration equal to the acceleration of gravity, and we can use the suvat equation:

v=u+at

where

v is the final velocity

u is the initial velocity

a=g=-9.8 m/s^2 is the acceleration of gravity (negative since downward)

t is the time

For the potato in this problem:

u = +35 m/s

So the time t at which the velocity reaches

v = 0

is

t=\frac{v-u}{a}=\frac{0-35}{-9.8}=3.57 s

Dwight uses a spring (k = 70 N/m) on a horizontal surface to make a launcher for model cars. The spring is attached to a holder
kramer

Part A)

As we know that spring force is given by

F = kx

here x = stretch in the spring from natural length

So here  when spring reaches to its natural length

Force due to spring = 0

so acceleration = 0

Part b)

When spring is compressed from its natural length it will have elastic potential energy in it

so it is given by

U = \frac{1}{2}kx^2

now we know that there is no friction in it so maximum kinetic energy of the launcher must be equal to the elastic potential energy of the spring

KE = \frac{1}{2}kx^2

here we have

k = 70 N/m

x = 0.4 m

KE = \frac{1}{2}(70)(0.4)^2

KE = 5.6 J

Part c)

Now to find the speed we know that

KE = \frac{1}{2} mv^2

5.6 = \frac{1}{2}0.3v^2

v = 6.11 m/s

so its speed is 6.11 m/s
