THE STRANGER fills the frogs belly with quail shot.
The title of the book is 'The celebrated jumping frog of Calaveras county'.
Smiley bet with a stranger that his frog can beat any other frog and the stranger agreed to go into competition with him. Smiley lost the competition, because unknown to him the stranger has filled his frog with quail shot when he went to the stream to catch a frog for the stranger.

Paladinen [302]

Answer:

Sensitive

Explanation:

As indicated in the excerpt, Valerie was a strong-willed woman who stood her ground on matters. So, it was a bit surprising when she became teary as a result of Steven's words. She became sensitive or delicate instead of tough and unmoved which was how she was normally known to be.

A sensitive person easily responds to other's actions. In other words, they are delicate. That was the same attitude portrayed by Valerie in this excerpt.

How are similes and metaphors different?
slava [35]

Answer:

While both similes and metaphors are used to make comparisons, the difference between similes and metaphors comes down to a word. Similes use the words like or as to compare things—“Life is like a box of chocolates.” In contrast, metaphors directly state a comparison—“Love is a battlefield.”
