If sin Ф=1/3>0 and tan Ф<0; then Ф belongs to the second quadrant and cos Ф will be negative (cos Ф<0).

sin²Ф+cos²Ф=1
(1/3)²+cos²Ф=1
1/9+cos²Ф=1
cos²Ф=1-1/9
cos²Ф=8/9
cos Ф=⁺₋√(8/9)=⁺₋2√2 / 3

We have two possible solutions.
cos Ф=2√2 / 3 This solutions is not possible, because in this case cos Ф has to be negative (cos Ф<0)

cos Ф=(-2√2) / 3 this solutions is right.

answer:B. -2 square root 2 /3    (or    (-2√2) /3  )

Solve for the positive value of x: 6x2 – 54 = 0
n200080 [17]
If you would like to solve for the positive value of x, you can do this using the following steps:

6 * x^2 - 54 = 0      /6
x^2 - 9 = 0
(x - 3) * (x + 3) = 0
1. x = 3
2. x = - 3

The correct result would be x = 3.

Simplify: −√16x^2 , when x<0
Savatey [412]

Answer:

-4|x|

Step-by-step explanation:

To simplify :

-\sqrt{16x^2} , when x

In order to simplify the given expression we will take the square root of the term inside the root.

The term in the square root are perfect squares (square of an integer), so, we can write them in square of the numbers.

⇒ -\sqrt{(\pm4x)^2}   [As (\pm4x)^2=16x^2]

On taking square root the square gets removed. So, we have,

⇒ -(\pm4x)

⇒ -4|x|

Since x, so the value would be negative.

So, simplified answer is

-4|x|  (Answer)
