you need to follow these steps to be able to solve any equation

if there is no brackets like yours then add to make it easier

3x^2 - 4x - 2 = (3x^2) - 4x - 2

From the steps I showed you indices is first so 3x multiplied by 3x is 9x  

now there is nothing left except for subtraction so solve from left to right always so 9x - 4x - 2 is 5x then 5x - 2 is 3x, x doesn’t change or gets subtracted.
