The result of the procedure with the nail ended up going through reduction while the copper strip went through oxidation. The copper strip is the anode and the nail is the cathode. The anode is the + and the cathode is the - . Both the copper strip and the anode are placed in a tank filled with electrolyte solution. The direction of the flow goes from the positive to the negative (anode to the cathode).
