A long distance phone service charges $0.30 for the first 10 minutes and $0.05 for each additional minute or fraction thereof. U
olga nikolaevna [1]

Answer: Our Cost function is discontinuous at every integer after x>10.

Step-by-step explanation:

Since we have given that

For the first 10 minutes , the service charges = $0.30

Let the number of additional minute be 't'.

Amount charge for each additional minute = $0.05

Using the greatest integer function:

So, Cost C of a call in terms of time 't' minutes would be

C=0.03+0.05\left \lceil t-10 \right \rceil

As we know that Greatest integer is discontinuous at every integer.

So, our Cost function is discontinuous at every integer after x>10.

Rachel traveled to five different areas (A, B, C, D, and E) to study the number of buckeye butterflies and the number of monarch
Ivenika [448]

Answer:

As we can see our our ration in Area B and Area D gives the same answer, so they are in proportion

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that

Rachel traveled to 5 areas to find  number of Buckeye and Monarch butterflies.

Areas Rachel Traveled to = A, B, C, D, E

The table given below shows her findings.

Area            Buckeye          Monarch

A                     15              16

B                      27              36

C                     12              25

D                      24              32

E                      44              33

Now lets find the ratio of Buckeye and Monarch Butterflies in these areas

Area A

Buckeye : Monarch = 15:16 = 0.9375

Area B

Buckeye : Monarch = 27:36 = 0.75

Area C

Buckeye : Monarch = 12:25= 0.48

Area D

Buckeye : Monarch = 24:32 = 0.75

Area E

Buckeye : Monarch = 44:33 = 1.334

As we know that if two ratios give same answer after solving the fraction then these ratios are in proportion.

As we can see our our ration in Area B and Area D gives the same answer, so they are in proportion.

Marcus loves baseball and wants to create a home plate for his house. Marcus needs to calculate the area of the home plate at th
Jobisdone [24]

<u><em>Answer:</em></u>

Area of the polygon = 59 in²

<u><em>Explanation:</em></u>

From the given diagram, we can note that the given polygon is composed of an upper triangle, a side triangle and a rectangle

<u>Therefore:</u>

Area of polygon =

area of upper triangle + area of side triangle + area of rectangle

<u>1- getting the area of the upper triangle:</u>

<u>We have:</u>

base of triangle = 7 in

height of triangle = 6 in

<u>Therefore:</u>

Area of upper triangle = \frac{1}{2}*base*height = \frac{1}{2}*7*6=21 in²

<u>2- getting the area of the side triangle:</u>

<u>We have:</u>

base of triangle = 4 in

height of triangle = 5 in

<u>Therefore:</u>

Area of upper triangle = \frac{1}{2}*base*height = \frac{1}{2}*4*5=10 in²

<u>3- getting the area of the rectangle:</u>

<u>We have:</u>

length of rectangle = 7 in

width of rectangle = 4 in

<u>Therefore:</u>

Area of rectangle = length x width = 7 x 4 = 28 in²

<u>4- getting the total area of the polygon:</u>

Area of polygon =

area of upper triangle + area of side triangle + area of rectangle

<u>Therefore:</u>

Area of polygon = 21 + 10 + 28 = 59 in²

Hope this helps :)
