  The Indus River valley civilization started about 2500 B.C.E, the largest city was Mohanjo-Daro. (river valley article)  The River valley was at its peak and it was richest between 2600 and 1900 B.C. and lasted about 5 to 700 years.  But the civilization started to fall apart between 1900 and 1700 B.C. (BBC) No one for sure knows what actually happened to the river valley civilization because there are no records.  Scientists can only speculate.
