Walther Flemming is a german scientist who named mitosis for the first time in the year 1882. Mitosis is the process of cell division in which a parent somatic cell into two daughter cells after the nucleus splits in two.
The word "mitosis" means "threads," or strands in the greek word mitos which refers to the thread-like or string-like appearance of the chromosomes during interphase and early prophase.
