They have successfully staged the massive strike known as "the Uprising of 20,000" in 1909. in New York City. The workers were mainly women and immigrants, and police have violently attacked them on multiple occasions. The result was the agreement on better conditions and higher wages, but not all Factories did comply.

Therefore, ILGWU led another strike in 1910, even a larger one, finally settling for the compromise. The agreement is known as the “protocol of peace” and it established better and safer conditions, higher wages, shorter working hours, paid overtime work, an agreement on certain Unions and Boards.
