Scientific notation implies that all the zeros are taken away and replaced with a 10 raised to whatever appropriate power would be necessary to make the number in scientific notation equal to the original number.

In the number 780,000,000, we can see that there are 7 zeros, but the number before the zeros has two digits, so we need to tuck the decimal point in there, because the number has to be between 1 and 10 for math reasons.

7.8 ... but what do we raise it to? We know it has to be 10, but to what power? Well, we just count how many places to the left the decimal point has traveled. From the original number, the decimal point shifted 8 places to the left, so that is the number that we will raise the 10 to.

The final number looks like this:

7.8 * 10^8

780,000,000 in scientific notation is <span>7.8 * 10^8

Scientific notation is
(number that is <u>></u>1 and <10) times (10^x)
so lets say you had 800
800=8 times 100
100=10^2, so
800=8 times 10^2 so

780,000,000=7.8 times 100,000,000
100,000,000=10^8 so
780,000,000=7.8 times 10^8

answer is 7.8 times 10^8

You would add up the percentages first, which would bring everything up to 35%. You would then take the original cost of the item, which is $30 and multiple it by the 35%.

The equation would look like...

30 x .35 =

This will give you $10.50, which isn't the final answer.

You would then subtract 10.50 from the $30 that was asked for at the beginning by the retailer.

Your final answer is $19.50. :) Which isn't a bad deal if I say so myself.

Drag and drop numbers into the boxes so that the paired values are in a proportional relationship.
mezya [45]

Answer:

A=6 and B=4.5

Step-by-step explanation:

You are given table

\begin{array}{cccccc}x&2&4&[A]&7&9\\y&1&2&3&3.5&[B]\end{array}

If the paired values are in a proportional relationship, then

\dfrac{2}{1}=\dfrac{4}{2}=\dfrac{[A]}{3}=\dfrac{7}{3.5}=\dfrac{9}{[B]}.

Note that

\dfrac{2}{1}=\dfrac{4}{2}=\dfrac{7}{3.5}=2,

then

\dfrac{[A]}{3}=2\Rightarrow [A]=6,\\ \\\dfrac{9}{[B]}=2\Rightarrow [B]=\dfrac{9}{2}=4.5.

A recipe uses 2/3 cup of flour and 5/8 cup of blueberries. Is there more flour or more blueberries in the recipe?
gladu [14]
Hey there!
In order to compare these fractions, we can give them a common denominator.
Our least common multiple of 3 and 8 is 24. We multiply 2/3 by 8/8 and 5/8 by 3/3 to get
16/24 and 15/24
Therefore, 2/3 is bigger.
Hope this helps!
