The speaker seems to be a fairly old man.

Explanation:

Paul Laurence Dunbar's poem "At Night" six stanza poem that revolves around the speaker who is reclining in front of a fire on a cold night. The speaker also is seemingly trying to wake up the sleeping boy next to him, but without success.

The age of the speaker can be best assumed to be old age, for he loves being in front of the fire. He also stated that <em>"hit feels so good to stretch"</em>, and admits <em>"Hit's mighty soothin' to de tiah"</em>.

Also, Democracy was limited because 1. not all Greek city-states were democratic for example, Sparta. B. Not everyone could vote. (especially women.)
