Answer:

  see below

Step-by-step explanation:

Read the words down to the point where it says "graph this equation." Then, it's not a word problem anymore—it's a problem of graphing the given equation.

  c = 2t +8

The "y-intercept" is the value of "y" when t=0. It is 8. This is the cost of a pizza with 0 toppings.

The slope is the coefficient of t. It is 2. This is the increase in the cost of a pizza when 1 topping is added. The slope is the cost of a topping.

__

Be aware that the grid on this graph shows squares, but the vertical dimension of the square is $2 while the horizontal dimension is 1 topping. That is, a line with a slope of 2 will lie on the diagonal of a grid square.

_____

Additional comment

We call the point where the graph crosses the vertical axis the "y-intercept." It is called that here, even though "y" is not in the equation or on the graph anywhere. It should rightfully be called the "c-intercept", since the vertical axis shows the value of c, the cost of the pizza.

Supplement : Solving Quadratic Equation DirectlySolving x4-10x2+9 = 0 directly

Earlier we factored this polynomial by splitting the middle term. let us now solve the equation by Completing The Square and by using the Quadratic Formula

Solving a Single Variable Equation :

Equations which are reducible to quadratic :

4.1     Solve   x4-10x2+9 = 0

This equation is reducible to quadratic. What this means is that using a new variable, we can rewrite this equation as a quadratic equation Using w , such that w = x2 transforms the equation into :
w2-10w+9 = 0

Solving this new equation using the quadratic formula we get two real solutions :
   9.0000  or   1.0000

Now that we know the value(s) of w , we can calculate x since x is √ w

Doing just this we discover that the solutions of
   x4-10x2+9 = 0
  are either :
  x =√ 9.000 = 3.00000  or :
  x =√ 9.000 = -3.00000  or :
  x =√ 1.000 = 1.00000  or :
  x =√ 1.000 = -1.00000

Four solutions were found : x = 3 x = -3 x = 1 x = -1
