The middle is zero to the left starting at one go to -5 or whatever the lines stop at (don't forget those are the negative).

Then for the right do the same but positive.

James answered 14 items correctly on a 16-item quiz. what percent did he answer correctly?
Troyanec [42]
So,

I like to simplify a fraction first.  This is what I do when I'm in a store trying to find the unit price.

\frac{14}{16}

Factor.
\frac{2*7}{2*2*2*2}

Cross out ones.
\frac{7}{2*2*2}

Multiply it out.
\frac{7}{8}

In my head, I remember that one-eighth is equal to 0.125.

So seven-eighths is equal to 0.125 times 7.
0.125 * 7 = 0.875

Convert to percent form.
0.875 --> 87.5%

James answered 87.5% of his quiz correctly.

I actually have the decimal equivalents for eighths in my head when I'm shopping.  So once I get seven-eighths, I immediately know how much that is.  I can also subtract 0.125 from 1.000 to get seven-eighths.

Mrs.gauthier plans to take her class on 2 field trips this year there are 23 students in her class and each field trip will cost
Alina [70]

If there is 2 field trips with 23 students and each student costs $5 dollars. So for the 1st trip it will be 23x$5

1st trip- $115

And on the second trip its the same because there is 23 students that cost 5 dollars so it will be 23x5

2nd trip- $115

To find out the total of both trips youd add 115+115/

In total, for both trips it will cost $230 dollars.
