Given:

The height of a right cone = 14 in

Base diameter = 17 in

To find:

The diagram of the cone and its lateral surface area.

Solution:

(a)

The diagram of a right cone with height 14 in and base diameter of 17 in is shown below.

Diagram is not to scale.

(b)

We know that lateral surface of the cone is

A=\pi rl

A=\pi r\sqrt{r^2+h^2}              ...(i)

Where, r is the base radius, h is vertical height and l is the slant height of the cone.

Base radius of the cone = \dfrac{\text{Base diameter}}{2}

r=\dfrac{17}{2}

r=8.5

Now,

Putting r=8.5, h=14 and π=3.14 in (i), we get

A=(3.14)(8.5)\sqrt{(8.5)^2+(14)^2}

A=26.69\sqrt{72.25+196}

A=26.69\sqrt{268.25}

A=437.1379

A\approx 437

Therefore, the lateral surface area of the cone is 437 sq. inches.

Solve each of the following equations using a method other than the Quadratic Formula.
liraira [26]

Answer:

A)

y^2-6y = 0

or, y(y-6) = 0

or, y = 0 or y = 6

B)

n^2+5n+7 = 7

or, n^2+5n+7-7 = 7-7 ( Subtracting 7 from both sides)

or, n^2+5n = 0

or, n(n+5) = 0

or, n=0 or n= -5

C)

2t^2-14t+3 = 3

or, 2t^2-14t = 0

or, 2t(t-7) = 0

or, t=0 or t=7

D)

1/3x^2+3x-4 = -4

or, 1/3x^2+3x = 0

or, 1/3x(x+9) = 0

or, x=0 or x= -9

E)

Zero is a common solution to each of the equations. This is because each of the equations had a variable outside the parenthesis with an operation of multiplication.

Find the coordinates of G if F(2,5) is the midpoint of line GJ and J and has coordinates (-2,8)
dimulka [17.4K]

Answer:

G(6,2)

Step-by-step explanation:

If point F(x_F,y_F) is the midpoint of the segment GJ, where G(x_G,y_G) and J(x_J,y_J), then

x_F=\dfrac{x_G+x_J}{2},\\ \\y_F=\dfrac{y_G+y_J}{2}.

In your case,

F(2,5),\ J(-2,8),

therefore,

2=\dfrac{x_G+(-2)}{2},\\ \\5=\dfrac{y_G+8}{2}.

Thus,

x_G-2=4\Rightarrow x_G=6,\\ \\y_G+8=10\Rightarrow y_G=2.
