Kilo, (kilometers, kilograms, etc.), Hecto, (hectograms, hectometers, etc.), Deca, (decameters, decagrams, etc.), M stands for THREE things, Meters, liters, and grams, Deci, (decimeters, decigrams, etc.), Centi, (centimeters, centigrams, etc.), and Milli, (millimeters, milligrams, etc.).
Now, you look at the diagram I have provided below:
You put 0.14 under Meters, liters, and grams, because it's 0.14 meters.
Now, whenever you move RIGHT, you move the decimal RIGHT every time you move. So we move to the RIGHT, because the centimeters is on the RIGHT, and now we move the decimal to the right.
Now it would be 01.4, but it's the same as 1.4, so we'll just put 1.4 under deci.
Now we have 1.4 DECIMETERS, but not quite yet centimeters.
We must keep moving to the right.
Once we move that decimal AGAIN, it is now 14.
WOO HOO! WE FIGURED IT OUT!
