Max has been assigned a science fair experiment and must research a topic related to photosynthesis . After looking at the equat

ion for photosynthesis he notices light is listed as shown below :
Photosynthesis Respiration: 6 CO 2 (Carbon dioxide) + 6H20 (water) ➡️(Light)(Chlorophyll) C 6 H 12 O 6 (sugar) + 6O 2 (Oxygen).

Max chooses to explore the effects of light on plant growth . He places three sunflower seedlings in three separate pots . He allows them to grow for 2 weeks and measures the growth of each plant . The pot that was placed in his basement , where no light reaches , grew 2 cm . The plant in his kitchen was a few feet away from a window that allowed some light in . The plant in the kitchen grew up to 20 cm . Last of all , the third pot which sat directly in the windowsill grew up to 30 cm .

Using the information gathered by Max answer the following question .

Suppose a butterfly with 16 chromosomes is able to produce offspring. How many chromosomes would the offspring receive from each
Stella [2.4K]

The irght answer is 8.

Each parent will give half of its chromosomes to its offspring through the gametes (which are haploid cells, containing n chromosomes) which will then fuse (male and female gametes) to form a diploid 2n chromosome cell and will eventually give rise to a new individual.

So each parent will give 8 of these chromosomes to their offspring.
