Explanation:

Upton Sinclair published the novel titled The Jungle in 1906. Sinclair wanted to draw attention to the working conditions for those who worked wage-paying jobs in industrial cities like Chicago in the United States, but instead, people fixated more on the health violations that were also described in the novel. To research his investigative writing as a journalist he worked incognito and actually took on wage labor himself in the meatpacking plants of the Chicago stockyards so he could give a first-hand account. It is disturbing how we desensitize ourselves to the working conditions of other people and we don't often analyze how products are made and the working conditions for those people who make or produce them.
