So let’s just think. Do you know how to get a percent of something? If so, ignore this next part.  If not, all you want to do is take 40 x 0.60. or whatever number you need. if it’s out of 100, that’s what you would do.

So now that we know how to get a percent of something, let’s find 60% of 40.

40 x 0.60 gives us 24, or in this case it’d be $24.

Great! we found the discount! now all we need to do is find out the difference.

All we need to do from here is take 40 - 24. what is 40 - 24?

Now you’re done! the discount brings it down to $24 and the difference between the starting price and the discount price is 16 dollars.
