Answer: it allows the passage of small molecules for nutrition and metabolism

Explanation:

A cell membrane constitutes the physical edge, that keeps the cellular content separated from the extracellular environment, and delimits the shape of the cell.

The lipid bilayer of the membrane acts as a barrier that separates two aqueous media: the medium, where the cell lives, and the cellular internal environment. The cells require nutrients from the outside and must eliminate waste substances from the metabolism. In this way, the membrane keeps their internal environment stable. The membrane has a selective permeability, since it allows the passage of small molecules, which are lipophilic; but regulates the passage of non-lipophilic molecules. Then, most of the water-soluble ions and molecules which are unable to spontaneously cross this barrier, require the concurrence of special carrier proteins or protein channels.

What is the function of a circulatory system? a) It brings a transport liquid into close contact with all cells in the body. b)
Tomtit [17]

Answer:

The correct answer is a) It brings a transport liquid into close contact with all cells in the body.

Explanation:

The circulatory system helps in bringing the blood which is a transport liquid in close contact with the cells present in our body. This helps in gas exchange between cells and blood. The circulation of blood in the body occurs by the pumping of blood by the heart into arteries, veins, and capillaries.

This circulation of blood plays many other vital functions like transport of nutrients to the cells, transport of waste products from the cell to outside the body, transport of hormones, maintenance of body temperature, etc.

So all these processes become possible when transport liquid comes in contact with the cells. Therefore the right answer is a.

Explain why a volcano is created when oceanic and continental crust collide. Makes sure you include what
pav-90 [236]

Oceanic crust or a less solid piece of oceanic crust will subduct beneath continental crust. Earthquakes occur when the oceanic plate subducts into a trench. Volcanoes are created by the melting of mantle material.

What does oceanic crust mean?

The outermost part of the Earth's lithosphere, known as oceanic crust, is created at spreading centres on oceanic ridges that are found at divergent plate boundaries and is found beneath the oceans. The oceanic crust is roughly 4 miles (6 km) thick. Even without the sediment on top, it is made up of many layers.

What is a characteristic of oceanic crust?

Compared to continental crust, oceanic crust is both thinner and denser. This is because to the oceans' weight, which has compacted it beneath it. It is also much more recent than continental crust, typically existing within the last 200 million years.

If you monitored energy allocation in an adult penguin for just a few months instead of an entire year, you might find the growt
Dmitrij [34]

Energy allocation in penguin

Explanation:

 • Although penguins don't grow from year to year, they increase and decrease in size as they repeatedly form and use energy stores,a significant amount of energy might be stored in fat during part of the year but be missing from the pie chart because it is used later in the year
 • Allocation of limited endogenous resources causes trade-offs between competing traits, such as reproduction, somatic growth and maintenance
 • During food deprivation, animals cannot maximize all of their life-history traits and must exhibit adaptive behavioral, physiological and biochemical responses to reduce metabolism and/or the cost of current activities in order to maintain biological value
