A teacher is buying pencils for her classroom. If a dozen pencils cost $0.97, how many pencils can she purchase with $5?
mixas84 [53]

Answer:

The teacher can purchase 61 pencils with $5

Step-by-step explanation:

This is a simple proportion problem. It can be solved by pure logic reasoning without any formulas

It a dozen pencils cost $0.97, each pencil cost $0.97/12=0.08083

With $5 she will be able to purchase 5/0.08083=61.85 pencils

We must round to the nearest lower integer

The teacher can purchase 61 pencils with $5

The quotient of x and 3 increased by 12 is 20 what is X
katrin [286]
You set up the equation. Then you do 20 minus 12 which gives you 8. You’re left over with x/3 equals 8. 8 multiplied by 3 gives 24, so x equals 24

Can you help me please?
Alexxx [7]
The errors are that she is just multiplying incorrectly.

10* 1.75 = 17.5
100* 1.75= 175
1000* 1.75 = 1750

When you are multiplying by tens (hundreds and thousands are also considered tens since they are just 10*10 and 10*10*10), you should just be moving the decimal place forward one place.
This goes back to very basic math when you are learning place values.
