(1) As we scroll through our social media feeds each day, most people enjoy videos of adorable animals or stunning photos of nat

ural landscapes. (2) Far from simply brightening our day, engagement with the natural world through social media may actually be helping to save our planet.
(3) Both individuals and organizations increasingly use social media to raise awareness of environmental issues and support conservation research. (4) A research article, news report, or photograph that “goes viral” can reach a global audience in a matter of minutes, connecting interested people with each other and allowing for a nearly immediate exchange of ideas. (5) In 2012, for example, a high school student posted a picture of an unusual lizard he saw in a local park to a nature-focused social network, where other members identified the lizard and noted how far it was from its known habitat. (6) This in turn became useful data for researchers studying these lizards and their changing ecosystem.

(7) The global audience provided by social media can also have a considerable economic impact for environmental causes. (8) Consumer pressure following the viral circulation of photos of turtles and other marine life injured by plastic drinking straws, for example, has led major corporations to seek more environmentally sustainable options. (9) Partly because viral content often makes people get all weepy, social media has also provided powerful fund-raising opportunities. (10) After a video recently circulated showing a rescued chimpanzee who enjoys playing with dolls, online donations to the rescue organization began pouring in. (11) Many social media platforms allow users to set up a donation campaign for an organization they support without any real effort on the part of the organization itself, increasing the benefit of even small donations.

(12) While some may argue that “hashtag activism” and online discussion have little real-world impact on individual behavior or public policy, social media is proving to be an increasingly powerful tool to draw attention—and resources—to conservation efforts.

In sentence 9 (reproduced below), which version of the underlined text best maintains the tone of the passage?

The answer is D. Spurred consideration and discussion, exchanges that many stylist chose to continue by hanging prints from the show in their salons.

Explanation:

The main claim of the paragraph is that art can encourage communication and strengthen group identity within a community. Answer choice “D” develops that claim by narrating how the piece Passin’ on to others encouraged patrons of local salons to reflect and discuss the words they use in daily life.

valentina_108 [34]

Answer and Explanation:

I was only twelve. The gymnasium seemed so big, but this time it did not intimidate me. This one as well as others had intimidated me for weeks, but now I had conquered them. It had been my very first time competing in a volleyball tournament for my school, and we had won. All the nervousness and anxiety, all that yelling from the coach and teammates had been worth it. We lined up, side by side, facing the seats. My mother and younger brother were there, smiling, happy to see me happy. My mother had made a point of driving me to every single game and watching them to the very end. Somehow, it felt as if the medal I was about to receive was hers as much as it was mine.

All of a sudden, her presence was made even more important. Someone had the idea of inviting the parents onto the court to place the medals around our eager necks. No one else’s parents were there; at least for my team. I was sorry for them, but there she came. She was now everyone’s mother, giving each of my teammates their respective medals and a congratulatory hug. We were all her children for a moment, and sharing my mother had never made me happier.

NOTE: I based this in my real-life experience. Feel free to change anything in order to adapt it to your life.

RSB [31]

Answer:

Kayla the kid (could add kangaroo here) looked through the knowledgeable kaleidoscope in kindergarten

Explanation:

Alliteration is where the same letter or sound is repeated at the beginning of a word multiple times in a sentence, or, the occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or closely connected words.

(pretty sure you knew that and just needed some help thinking of words though, hopefully the above helps you out!)

btw (could add kangaroo here) is not part of it, just a side note haha
