Cilia within the Fallopian tubes is not an obstacle sperm face within the female reproductive system

During sexual activity between two individuals, human sperm are ejaculated or released into the vagina, where they quickly contact cervical mucus and further enter the cervix in a bid to avoid contact with vaginal acid and other obstacles they may face within the female reproductive system.

Further Explanation

Millions of human sperm cells enter the vagina but only a few ones gain access into the Fallopian tubes, and remarkably, only one sperm is able to fertilize the egg which results to the reproduction of a new individual. Sperm cells face so many obstacles which they must prevail over in a bid to reach their potential destination. Some of these obstacles are:·

 • The mucus of the cervix
 • The thinness of the entrance to the cervix
 • The acidic environment of the vagina
 • The white blood cells of the female immune system

These obstacles are described by the scientists as a molecular screening process that only few sperm can overcome. For a sperm cell to be allowed through, it is guided by some chemical and temperature signals.

It is worthy to note that, there is evidence of storage of sperm in the Fallopian tubes, where there is a binding of the sperm to the epithelial lining of the tubes, which tends to reduce the chance of fertilization by countable sperm.

How are endocytosis and exocytosis similar? how are they different?
suter [353]
Endocytosis and exocytosis are similar in that they are both forms of cell transport. They differ because in endocytosis, a cell transports molecules into a cell (think: endo - in), and in exocytosis, the cell's molecules are transported by being expelled.
