Hay varias definiciones contradictorias para la geosfera. Puede ser tomado como el nombre colectivo de la litosfera, la hidrosfera, la criosfera y la atmósfera. Los diferentes colectivos de la geoesfera son capaces de intercambiar diferentes flujos de masa y/o energía. El intercambio de estos fundentes afecta al equilibrio de las diferentes esferas de la geoesfera.
