A research study looked at variations in snail populations in urban areas compared to natural ecosystems outside of the urban de

velopment. Urban areas tend to be be warmer, trapping more solar energy and reflecting less light back out of the atmosphere. The study found that brown snails were more commonly found in the natural ecosystem while yellow banded snails were found in the urban, developed areas. Which statement best describes the distribution in the phenotypes for the snails in this scenario?
A) The variations in the snail populations are random and unrelated to the locations.

B) The variation in the snail population is due to sexual reproduction of the snails in the urban development and asexual reproduction of the snails in the natural ecosystem.

C) The variation in the snail population is due to mutations while the distribution of colors in the population is due to genetic drift. The location of the colors is a random process.

D) The variation in the snail populations is due to mutations while the distribution of colors in the population is due to the changes in temperature in the two areas. Lighter colored snails survive with greater frequency in the warmer urban development.

Can Earth's water ever be clean and pure again?
Yuliya22 [10]
There is no such thing as pure water, when you buy bottled water you think you're buying pure water but it's the same water.

I'm not going into the scientific facts here but the truth is 'pure' water does not exist because that means the water will have NOTHING in it which means they will have to remove the natural minerals and then the water will interact with any organic materials the water encounters, including air and plastic.

But the water is clean and healthy to drink. Just not pure.

You were distracted by another student in the classroom and forgot your oxidase test for 15 minutes. When you check on the resul
lukranit [14]

Answer:

The result is a Positive Oxidase test

Explanation:

The oxidase test is used to identify bacteria that produce cytochrome c oxidase, an enzyme of the bacterial electron transport chain. (note: All bacteria that are oxidase positive are aerobic, and can use oxygen as a terminal electron acceptor in respiration. This does NOT mean that they are strict aerobes.

The reagent is a dark-blue to maroon color when oxidized, and colorless when reduced. Oxidase-positive bacteria possess cytochrome oxidase or indophenol oxidase (an iron-containing hemoprotein). These both catalyze the transport of electrons from donor compounds (NADH) to electron acceptors (usually oxygen).
