- 7 ( x - 2 ) + 1 = 15 - 7x
Savatey [412]

Answer: x=1

Step-by-step explanation:

You need to open up the parenthesis so you multiply every term inside the parenthesis by -7.

1.  -7x + 14 + 1 = 15 -7x

2. Combine like terms -7x + 15 = 15-7x

The two sides of the equation are the same so that means that x=1

Select the equation of the line that passes through the point (5, 7) and is perpendicular to the line x = 4.
Dmitry_Shevchenko [17]
Yes, I think the answer is y = 7. The line x = 4 runs vertical (because all of the points in that line have an x-value of 4) so any line that is perpendicular to it has to be horizontal. Any line that is horizontal is in the form y = (some number). In order for the new line to run through the point (5,7) it would have to have the same y-value as that point, which is 7. So the new line is y = 7. Hope this helps :) (P.S. try graphing them both if you need a visual.)

Which two values of x are roots of the polynomial below?<br> 3x2-3x+1
QveST [7]

Answer:

The roots are

x=\frac{1}{6} [3+ i\sqrt{3}]

x=\frac{1}{6} [3- i\sqrt{3}]

Step-by-step explanation:

we have

3x^2-3x+1

The formula to solve a quadratic equation of the form

ax^{2} +bx+c=0

is equal to

x=\frac{-b\pm\sqrt{b^{2}-4ac}} {2a}

in this problem we have

3x^2-3x+1=0

so

a=3\\b=-3\\c=1

substitute in the formula

x=\frac{-(-3)\pm\sqrt{-3^{2}-4(3)(1)}} {2(3)}

x=\frac{3\pm\sqrt{-3}} {6}

Remember that

i=\sqrt{-1}

so

x=\frac{1}{6} [3\pm i\sqrt{3}]

The roots are

x=\frac{1}{6} [3+ i\sqrt{3}]

x=\frac{1}{6} [3- i\sqrt{3}]
