Abu Bakr (ca. 573-634) was Mohammed successor. He was the first caliph and ruler of the Arab state. During his reign, he promoted Mohammed legacy. Mohammed and Abu Bakr were very close friends to the extent that Abu Bakr was the only person that joined him on his Hijra, which is the movement from Mecca to Medina in 622.
In 624, Mohammed married Abu Bakr’s daughter and this further strengthened their friendship.
Following Mohammed death in June 632, Abu Bakr became the caliph, although his reign was marred with serious revolts.
