Explain how you decide wether to multiply or divide by 3 if you need to convert yards to feet.
Valentin [98]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Converting yards to feet means that we want the label of yards to cancel, leaving feet as our label. Use the factor-label method taught in chemistry.

???yds *\frac{3feet}{1yd}

The yards label cancels out, leaving feet as our label.  So to answer the question, in order to convert from yards to feet you are multiplying by 3.

complete your work on a separate sheet of paper after you answer the question unlock your work to the Box
charle [14.2K]

okay so the first step in finding the answer is to see what the formula is to determine the area of a rectangle.

do you know the formula?

okay so the formula is A = L * W

where the L stands for length

and the W stands for Width

so based on the picture can you determine what the length and width are?

where are you having issues with that?

yes that is correct!

don't second guess yourself

so the length is 2 2/3 and the width is 3/4

now the easiest way to solve this problem is to convert the fractions into decimals

are you allowed to use a calculator?

okay so then lets try to convert these fractions into whole numbers

do you know how to convert fractions into whole numbers?

okay so worries

so do that we would have to Divide the numerator by the denominator, only if the numerator is a multiple of the denominator.

so for the width, is 4 a multiple of 3?

no it is not

so out only method would be to convert it into a decimal

do you know what 3/4 is in decimal form?

it is .75 because if you have 4 quarters which equal .25 then 3 quarters equal 75

now we move onto the length 2 2/3

now we already have 2 as a whole number and we can convert 2/3 into a decimal

so we basically do 3 /2

3 does not go into 2 so we put a decimal so it is 0.

then we see how many times 3 goes into 20

how many times does 3 go into 20?

no it is 6 times, because 3*6 = 18

so now we have 0.6

and we bring down the reminder

so we have 3/20

and we have a repeating decimal so our answer is

2/3 = 0.66666

so if we add the whole number we have 2.6666

so now we can plug that into the equation

A = L * W

A = 0.75 * 2.6666

Are you with me so far?

do you have any questions?

great now we just multiple 2.66 * 0.75

can you do that and tell me what you get?

AWESOME!

Now we can round that to the closest number

what is that?

do you know what 1.995 to the closest whole is?

GREAT!

so your answer is

0.75 * 2.66 = 2

ANY QUESTIONS?

Do you know the formula for the perimeter of a rectangle?

P = 2( L + W)

so from the information that we already have, can you plug in the numbers for me?

close, try again

and this time for it in fromula form

use the formula that I have provided for you

so can you tell me the formula for the perimeter of a rectangle?

great

so P is the value we are looking for and the rest is the formula

can you now try to plug in the numbers into the formula

starting with P =

GREAT!

now don't forget the parentheses

so try one last time

Awesome!

So now according to the laws of PEMDAS what would be our first step into solving this equation?

where did you get 3.41 from?

yes

so 2.66 + 0.75 = 3.41

now we have P = 2 (3.41)

so we now multiple 3.41 * 2

what do you get when you do that?

great job!

so now we know P = 6.82

and those are your two answers

A = 2

P = 6.82

do you have any questions?

A rectangular garden has a walkway around it. The area of the garden is 6(6.5x + 2.5). The combined area of the garden and the w
Rasek [7]

According to the information given in the exercise, the following expression represents the area of the rectangular garden:

6\mleft(6.5x+2.5\mright)

And the following expression represents the combined area of the walkway around the rectangular garden and the area of the garden:

6.5\mleft(8x+6\mright)

You can identify that the word "combined" indicates that that expression was obtained by adding both areas.

Knowing the above, you can set up the following equation:

6(6.5x+2.5)+A=6.5(8x+6)

Where "A" is the area of the walkway around the rectangular garden.

Solving for "A", you get the following expression:

\begin{gathered} A=6.5(8x+6)-6(6.5x+2.5) \\ A=52x+39-39x-15 \\ A=13x+24 \end{gathered}

The answer is:

13x+24
