Answer:

Solubility is the property of a solid, liquid or gaseous chemical substance called solute to dissolve in a solid, liquid or gaseous solvent.

Viscosity is the state of being thick, sticky, and semifluid in consistency, due to internal friction.

Luster is a gentle sheen or soft glow, especially that of a partly reflective surface.

Malleability is a physical property of metals that defines their ability to be hammered, pressed, or rolled into thin sheets without breaking. In other words, it is the property of a metal to deform under compression and take on a new shape.

and lastly Ductility is when a solid material stretches under tensile strain. If ductile, a material may be stretched into a wire. Malleability, a similar property, is a material's ability to deform under pressure (compressive stress). If malleable, a material may be flattened by hammering or rolling.

An excess of oxygen reacts with 451.4 g of lead, forming 374.7 g of lead(II) oxide. Calculate the percent yield of the reaction.
Stels [109]

Answer: The percent yield of the reaction is 77.0 %

Explanation:

2Pb+O_2\rightarrow 2PbO

\text{Number of moles}=\frac{\text{Given mass}}{\text{Molar mass}}

\text{Number of moles of lead}=\frac{451.4g}{207.2g/mol}=2.18moles

\text{Number of moles of lead oxide}=\frac{374.7g}{223.2g/mol}=1.68moles

According to stoichiometry:

2 moles of Pb produces = 2 moles of PbO_2

2.18 moles of Pb is produced by=\frac{2}{2}\times 2.18=2.18moles of PbO_2

Mass of PbO_2 =moles\times {\text {Molar mass}}=2.18\times 223.2g/mol=486.6

percent yield =\frac{374.7g}{486.6g}\times 100=77.0\%

The molecules in a sample of oxygen gas are in constant motion. What does an increase in temperature indicate about the movement
Basile [38]

Answer:

An increase in temperature indicates that the molecules of gas speed up.

Explanation:

The molecular kinetic theory states that the average kinetic energy of gas particles (molecules) is proportional to the absolute (Kelvin) temperature of the gas, and all gases at the same temperature have the same average kinetic energy.

Therefore, as the temperature increases so the kinetic energy increases.

It is also known that the kinetic energy is proportional to the squared speed of the particles, therefore the higher the kinetic energy the average speed of the molecules:

  • higher temperature → higher kinetic energy → higher average speed

the difference between these two measurements: 60 m and 60.00 m How many sig figs does each contain? Clearly explain which digit
tensa zangetsu [6.8K]

This problem is providing two measurements, 60 m and 60.00 m and asks for the difference in the significant digits, accuracy, uncertainty, whether they are the same or not and how they differ.

<h3>Significant figures:</h3>

In chemistry, the use of significant figures is crucial, because they define the most appropriate way to report a measurement. Thus, we can say that the more decimals a measurement has, the more accurate and the less uncertain it is. Also, if no decimal places are present, tracking zeros are not significant.

In such a way, one can conclude that 60 m has just one significant figure (0 does not count) whereas 60.00 m has four  (there is a decimal making all zeros significant), 60.00 m is more accurate as more decimal places are reported. On the other hand 60 m is the more uncertain as less decimals contribute to its accuracy.

In addition, we say they can be the same measurement, as long as they represent the same idea, sixty meters, the thing is 60.00 m is more accurate yet they refer to the same measurement.
