Explain why serine proteases do not catalyze hydrolysis if the amino acid at the hydrolysis site is a D-amino acid. Trypsin, for

example, cleaves on the CC-side of L-ArgArg and L-LysLys, but not on the CC-side of D-ArgArg and D-LysLys.

Answer:

Explanation:

A protease is an enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of the peptide bonds that tie polypeptide chains together, releasing individual amino acid subunits. The L and D nomenclature for amino acids defines the structure of the glyceraldehyde isomer through which the amino acid can be produced.

SEE BELOW FOR THE APPROPRIATE STRUCTURES.

We need to figure out why swine proteases hydrolyze L-amino acids but not D-amino acids in any way. we know that enzymatic catalysts act as polypeptides if you can recall. They must retain a very precise three-dimensional structure for a catalytic activity to occur. Substrates that do not quite match the required configuration at the active site will not be reacted to — this is a "lock and key" style.

The present exercise may be explained by the fact that the configuration and structure of D-amino acids prevent them from binding properly to the active site of the protease enzyme. Perhaps they're pointed in the wrong direction, or perhaps there happens to be missing electrical interaction that's needed to keep the substrate in position.

Nonetheless, L-amino acids, on the other hand, seem to have the right configurational aspects in the active site and are hydrolyzed.

What is the function of RBC
avanturin [10]

Answer:

When a red blood cell is placed in a hypertonic solution, it contracts as water is drawn out of the cell and into the surrounding solution. If the same blood cell is placed in a hypotonic solution, the blood cell grows in size. Blood cells in isotonic solutions do not shrink or swell.

The reason that blood cells change in size when placed in a solution with different salt concentration is due to the osmosis process. Osmosis causes solutions with high concentrations of salt to draw water from areas with low concentrations of salt.

There are some exceptions to this phenomenon. Blood cells can draw water and explode when placed in hypertonic solution on some special occasions. Some diseases affect the structural integrity of blood cells. Also, when human blood cells are exposed to temperatures close to freezing, they can draw water and explode.

Osmosis is an important phenomenon for living systems. The amount of salt in a given solution exhibits a tendency to diffuse through the environment, eventually resulting in equilibrium. In addition to blood cells, the kidneys function through the use of osmotic principles. The kidneys filter an animal's blood to remove excess salt and balance the amount of water

What is the first step in the treatment process for addiction where the addiction is systematically and safely withdrawn?
solniwko [45]

Answer:

Medical Detoxification

Explanation:

Detox or detoxification is the process of safely and systematically withdrawing from a substance such as drugs or alcohol. For many, it’s an important first step in recovery, allowing the body to withdraw from potentially dangerous substances without risking hospitalization.

Many drugs have significant withdrawal symptoms once you quit using them, you tend to experiencing considerable discomfort and pain. Without proper medical attention, these withdrawal symptoms can become dangerous to your health and even become life‐threatening.

Objectives of Detoxification include

1. Evaluation‐the testing of substances in the bloodstream, their concentrations and any co‐occurring mental or physical conditions that may accompany substance abuse as well as other medical and social assessments.

2. Stabilization‐assisting patients through the withdrawal process towards a stable and substance‐ free state.

3. Fostering Entry into Treatment‐preparing clients to enter formal treatment and providing encouragement and support.

A group of scientists are observing a new found cell. They want to classify it as either a prokaryotic cell or a eukaryotic cell
valkas [14]
  • The question can be solved by using the difference between eukaryotic and prokaryotic cell.
  • Prokaryotic cell does not have a well defined nucleus. The nuclear material lies naked in the cytoplasm. It is known as nucleoid. While, eukaryotic cell has a well defined nucleus with a nuclear membrane.
  • Prokaryotic cell has a single chromosome while eukaryotic cell has more than one chromosome.
  • Finally, prokaryotic cell do not have membrane-bound cell organelles while eukaryotic cell have membrane-bound cell organelles.

Hope you could get an idea from here.
