Which is the BEST explanation for why the speed of sound changes for solids, liquids, and gases?
garik1379 [7]

the reason why sound travels faster in solid is because the molecules in solid is more close to each other and they allow the waves of the sound to travel quickly or easily. and same reason why the sound travels fast in liquid that gas, it's because the molecules in liquid is closer to each other than the molecules in gas but they're not as close as solid hence why solid is the fastest at traveling sound

Water at a gauge pressure of 3.8 atm at street level flows into an office building at a speed of 0.62 m/s through a pipe 5.3 cm
jasenka [17]

Answer:

  P₂ = 206945 Pa

Explanation:

given,

gauge pressure = 3.8 atm

1 atm = 101325 Pa

speed of flow,v₁ = 0.62 m/s

diameter of pipe,d₁ = 5.3 cm

diameter of pipe after tapering, d₂ = 3 cm

height above the ground = 18 m

Using equation of continuity

  A₁v₁ = A₂ v₂

\dfrac{\pi}{4}d_1^2 v_1 = \dfrac{\pi}{4}d_2^2 v_2

v_2 = v_1(\dfrac{d_1^2}{d_2^2})

v_2 =0.62\times (\dfrac{5.3^2}{3^2})

    v₂ = 1.94 m/s

using Bernoulli's equation

P_1 + \dfrac{\rho v_1^2}{2} = P_2 + \dfrac{\rho v_2^2}{2} +\rho g h

P_2= P_1 + \dfrac{\rho}{2}(v_1^2 - v_2^2) -\rho g h

P_2=3.8\times 101325 + \dfrac{1000}{2}(0.62^2 - 1.94^2) -1000\times 9.8\times 18

  P₂ = 206945 Pa

hence, pressure of the pipe at top floor is equal to   P₂ = 206945 Pa

If an airplane is moving at a constant speed of 500 miles per hour in a straight line is it accelerating?
Zinaida [17]

No. It’s moving at a constant speed (speed is not changing) in a straight line (same direction so velocity is not changing) so it is not accelerating. Acceleration only occurs if there’s a change in speed/velocity.

Motion can be detected by using background objects that are not moving called_______________ points
gtnhenbr [62]

Answer: A reference point

Explanation: If an object is in motion then its distance from another object is changing.  Whether an object is moving or not depends on your point of view. For example, a woman riding on a bus is not moving in relation to the seat she is sitting on, but she is moving in relation to the buildings the bus passes. A reference point is a place or object used for comparison to determine if something is in motion. An object is in motion if it changes position relative to a reference point. You assume that the reference point is stationary, or not moving.
