Por ejemplo, el pensamiento es un procesos cognitivo superior el cual requiere integrar diferentes fuentes de información con el objetivo de tomar una decisión y/o razonar acerca de una cuestión particular. La metacognición se define como la habilidad de reflexionar sobre un determinado proceso de pensamiento, permitiendo la planificación y toma de decisiones. La metacognición presenta dos componentes fundamentales: conocimiento y regulación de la cognición, los cuales tienen como finalidad controlar y evaluar las actividades llevadas a cabo.
