The nuclear fusion reaction is the source of energy in a star. In nuclear fusion reactions, the nuclei of two atoms combine to create a new atom with the release of a lot of energy. The nuclear fusion reaction takes place in the core of the star where two hydrogen atoms fuse to become one helium atom.

²₁H + ³₁H --> ⁴₂He + ¹₀n + 17.59 MeV

In the fusion reaction above deuterium fuses with tritium to form helium and releases ~18 mega electron volt of energy.

2Na+S→Na2S
Sedbober [7]

Answer:

2.0 moles S

Explanation:

To find the number of moles of S, you need to convert the moles Na to moles S via the mole-to-mole ratio. This ratio is represented by the coefficients in the balanced equation. Because you wish to find moles S, you want to put this number in the numerator. Because you want to eliminate the moles Na, this number should be in the denominator.

2 Na + 1 S ---> Na₂S

4.0 moles Na             1 mole S
----------------------  x  ---------------------  =  2.0 moles S
                                 2 moles Na

Jack tries to place magnets on his refrigerator at home, but they won’t stick. What could be the reason?
kipiarov [429]

Answer:

The body of the refrigerator isn’t made of magnetic material.

Explanation:

Same reason why a magnet doesn't stick to a paper or a plastic is the reason behind why Jack's refrigerator is acting out because may be it isn't made of magnetic materials like iron, steel etc, but rather made up of non magnetic things like porcelain, wood etc.

Write a mechanism for the esterification of propanoic acid with 18O-labeled ethanol. Show clearly the fate of the 18O label. (b)
tatuchka [14]

Answer:

See explanation and images attached

Explanation:

a) In the mechanism for the acid catalysed esterification of propanoic acid using ethanol, we can see that the first step is the protonation of the acid followed by nucleophillic attack of the alcohol. Loss of water and consequent deprotonation regenerates the acid catalyst. We can see the fate of the 18O labelled ethanol in the mechanism shown.

b)  In the second mechanism, an unnamed ester is hydrolysed using an acid catalyst. The attack of the acid and subsequent nucleophillic attack of water labelled with 18O leads to the incorporation of this 18O into the product acid as shown in the mechanism attached to this answer.
