The energy in meals is converted into energy that the body's cells may use through the process of cellular respiration. The sugars in your food are first broken down into the simple sugar glucose. The energy held in glucose is transformed to ATP during cellular respiration. Our cells then use the ATP which is now energy to perform their duties.
