A lifeguard at position L spots a swimmer in trouble at one corner of the pool, S. She runs down the length of the pool to posit

ion P, and then dives in and swims a distance d from P and S.
Show that the swimming distance is given by the relation d=wsecx
if l=2w, determine the range of values that x may take on, given that P can be anywhere along the length of the pool.

Answer:

Let us assume the angle which the lifeguard makes at the point S be x°.

Now, we know that in a triangle,

cosx=\frac{adjacent}{hypotenuse}

i.e. cosx=\frac{w}{d}

i.e. secx=\frac{d}{w}.

i.e. wsecx=d.

Hence, the distance is given by i.e. wsecx=d.

Further, we have that,

tanx=\frac{opposite}{adjacent}

i.e. tanx=\frac{l}{w}

i.e. tanx=\frac{2w}{w} ( As l=2w )

i.e. tanx=2

i.e. x=\arctan2

i.e. x=1.107

So, the lifeguard can go from the path PS to MS i.e. the range of x is 1.107° to 90°

1 ) cos x =  w / d
d = w / cos x         ( sec x = 1 / cos x )
d = w sec x
2 )
Min. value of x :
tan x = w / 2 w = 1/2 = 0.5
x = tan^(-1) 0.5 = 26.56°
The range of values that x can take on:
26.56° < x < 90°

Sebastian bought x gallons of gas at a price of $2.91 per gallon at his local gas station. When he paid for the gas, Sebastian a
rjkz [21]

Answer:

Sebastian spent $40.40 at the gas station.

Step-by-step explanation:

First let's find how much the gas cost.

So it's $2.91 a gallon, and Sebastian fills 10 gallons of gas, so we multiply.

10 * 2.91 = $29.10

Then we add on the $11.40 from the granola bars and the box of tissues.

$29.10 + $11.40 = $40.50

So the final price should be $40.40. Sebastian spent $40.40 at the gas station.

You are constructing a 95% confidence interval using the information: n = 60, x-bar = 65.5, s = 2.5, and E = 0.70. What is the v
elena-s [515]

Answer:

65.5

Step-by-step explanation:

Using the relation :

Xbar ± Margin of error

Margin of Error = Zcritical * s/√n

The Zcritical value at 95% = 1.96

Hence,

Margin of Error = 1.96 * 2.5/√60

Margin of Error = 1.96 * 0.3227486

Margin of Error = 0.6326

Lower boundary = 65.5 - 0.6326 = 64.867

Upper boundary = 65.5 + 0.6326 = 66.133

(64.867 + 66.133) / 2
