Answer:

28"

Step-by-step explanation:

the length of the other non-hypotenuse side =

√(53² - 45²) =√(2809-2025) =√784 = 28"

  • B=45
  • H=53

Using Pythagorean theorem

\\ \rm\longmapsto P^2=H^2-B^2

\\ \rm\longmapsto P^2=53^2-45^2

\\ \rm\longmapsto P^2=2809-2025

\\ \rm\longmapsto P^2=784

\\ \rm\longmapsto P=\sqrt{784}

\\ \rm\longmapsto P=28

27? i cant figure out her mistake can anyone help ?
expeople1 [14]
The mess up occurs in one of the first things she says. She first claims that 7^2 +25^2 = 24^2
Wait a minute... slow your roll there.
25 is the hypotenuse, or the longest side of the triangle AND opposite the right angle (but we aren't supposed to know that yet).
The Pythagorean Theorem holds that a^2 + b^2 = c^2, where a & b are the legs of the triangle & c is the hypotenuse. So, she got the formatting correctly, but she switched 24 & 25.
Hope this helps!

One student can paint a wall in 16 minutes. Another student can paint the same wall in 24 minutes. Working together, about how l
Mazyrski [523]
Let's look at work rates per minute.

Together they can paint the wall in x minutes.
Working together, in 1 minute, they do 1/x of the job.

The student who paints the wall in 16 minutes does 1/16 of the job in 1 minute.
The student who paints the wall in 24 minutes does 1/24 of the job in 1 minute.
Together, they do 1/16 + 1/24 of the job in 1 minute, but from above, we see that together, they do 1/x of the job in 1 minute, so 1/16 + 1/24 must equal 1/x. That gives us our equation.

1/16 + 1/24 = 1/x

1/16 * 3/3 + 1/24 * 2/2 = 1/x

3/48 + 2/48 = 1/x

5/48 = 1/x

x = 48/5 = 9.6

Answer: It takes them 9.6 minutes, or about 10 minutes to do the job together.
