Mrs. Marlow's class is conducting an investigation of a mixture of sand, iron filings, and salt. They were told that they must s

eparate the mixture into pure sand, pure iron filings, and pure salt using only the physical properties of each component using the following supplies:
bar magnet

filter paper

plastic funnel

water

What is the BEST procedure for the students to follow in order to separate the mixture?

A mixture can be separated by looking at the physical properties of the components of the mixture.

Since salt is soluble in water, it can be added to the mixture to dissolve the salt.

The bar magnet is now introduced in order to remove the iron filings since they are attracted by a magnet.

The solution is filtered to separate the sand from the salt solution.

Lastly, the salt solution is heated to dryness to drive away the water and obtain the solid salt.

Hence the mixture has been separated into its components using their individual physical properties. Option A is the correct answer.

How many moles is 1.25 x 1024 atoms of bromine?
Irina-Kira [14]

Answer:

2.08 moles (3 s.f.)

Explanation:

number of moles

= number of atoms ÷ Avogadro's constant

Avogadro's constant= 6.022 ×10²³

Thus, number of moles

= 1.25×10²⁴ ÷ (6.022 ×10²³)

= 2.08 moles (3 s.f.)

Convert 7.50 mol of Li₂O to grams
Natali5045456 [20]

Answer:

223.5 g

Explanation:

The formula between the number of moles, mass and Mr can be used to convert moles to grams.

<em>Number of moles = mass ÷ Mr</em>

So, mass = number of moles × Mr

  Mr of Li₂O = (6.9 × 2) + 16 = 29.8

∴ Mass = 7.5 × 29.8 = <u>223.5 g</u>

Which of these statements describes this mathematical equation?
salantis [7]

Answer:

The final pressure of a gas is inversely proportional to the volume change and directly proportional to temperature

Explanation:

Given

\frac{P_1V_1}{T_1} = k

Required

Interpret

\frac{P_1V_1}{T_1} = k

Multiply both sides by T1

T_1 * \frac{P_1V_1}{T_1} = k * T_1

P_1V_1 = kT_1

Divide both sides by V1

\frac{P_1V_1}{V_1} = \frac{kT_1}{V_1}

P_1 = \frac{kT_1}{V_1}

This can be rewritten as:

P_1 = k\frac{T_1}{V_1}

In the above expression; k is a constant of proportionality.

So, the equation can be written as variation as follows:

P_1\ \alpha\ \ \frac{T_1}{V_1}

To interpret:

<em>P varies directly to T (the numerator) and inversely to V (the denominator).</em>
