Ok so…. The “x” line goes horizontal and the “y” line goes diagonal. First thing you want to look at is if there’s a negative sign, the line is going to be pointing left like this:

From the center of the graph (called the origin) count up 5 units and left 2 units. Then graph that point. Then to graph another point, from the origin, move right 2 units and down 5 units then plot a point. Your graph should look kind of like this:
