Answer:

<h3>Move all the x terms to one side. Use inverse operations and add 1 5 x 15x 15x to both sides to keep the equation balanced. Solve by working backwards from the order of operations. This means we need to undo the −2 first by adding 2 to both sides of the equation to keep it balanced.</h3>

The ratio of the longer side of a rectangle to its shorter side is 4 to 3. If the shorter side of the rectangle is 21ft, what is
Eduardwww [97]

Answer:

28 ft

Step-by-step explanation:

Let longer side of rectangle be L and the shorter side be  S, thus we can write the ratio:

\frac{L}{S}=\frac{4}{3}

<em>Now putting 21 into S, we solve for L:</em>

\frac{L}{21}=\frac{4}{3}\\3L=4*21\\3L=84\\L=\frac{84}{3}=28

Hence, length of longer side is 28 ft.

Determine which of the indicated column vectors are eigenvectors of the given matrix
gladu [14]
]Eigenvectors are found by the equation (A-\lambda I) \vec{v} = 0$ implying that \det(A-\lambda I) = 0. We then can write:

A-\lambda I = \left [ \begin{array}{cc} 4-\lambda & 2 \\ 5 & 1-\lambda \end{array}\right ]

And:

\det(A-\lambda I) = (4-\lambda)(1-\lambda) - 10 = 0

Gives us the characteristic polynomial:

\lambda^2 - 5 \lambda -6 = 0 \implies \lambda_1 = -1, \lambda_2 = 6

So, solving for each eigenvector subspace:

\left [ \begin{array}{cc} 4 & 2 \\ 5 & 1 \end{array} \right ] \left [ \begin{array}{c} x \\ y \end{array} \right ] = \left [ \begin{array}{c} -x \\ -y \end{array} \right ]

Gives us the system of equations:

4x + 2y = -x \newline 5x + y = - y

Producing the subspace along the line y = -\frac{5}{2} x

We can see then that 3 is the answer.

2(y-4)+5=3(y+2) for y
brilliants [131]

2(y-4)+5=3(y+2)

multiply the first bracket by 2

(2)(y)=2y

(2)(-4)=-8

multiply the second bracket by 3

(3)(y)=3y

(3)(2)=6

2y-8+5=3y+6

2y-3=3y+6

move 3y to the other side

sign changes from +3y to -3y

2y-3y-3=3y-3y+6

-y-3=6

move -3 to the other side

-y-3+3=6+3

-y=9

multiply both sides by -1 to get +y

(-1)(-y)=9(-1)

Answer:

y=-9
