Given the points on the graph, (-3,0) and (0,5), we can solve for the slope using the formula:

m = (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1) = (5-(-3)) / (0- (-3)) = 5/3

So the slope is 5/3 (you can verify on the graph, using the rise/run concept).

The y-intercept is the value of y when x = 0. If you look at the two coordinates that I used for solving the slope, the coordinate ( 0, 5) will give you the y-intercept of 5, since its ordered pair of x value = 0.

So, y-intercept = 5.

We now have the necessary variables needed for your linear equation:

y = 5/3x + 5.

It has a positive slope, thus the line sloping upward.

Hope this helps you :)

(06.02 mc) the equation of line cd is y=3x-3. Write an equation of a line perpendicular to line cd in slope intercept form that
Fynjy0 [20]

Answer:

y = - \frac{1}{3} x + 2

Step-by-step explanation:

The equation of a line in slope- intercept form is

y = mx + c ( m is the slope and c the y- intercept )

y = 3x - 3 ← is in slope- intercept form

with slope m = 3

Given a line with slope m then the slope of a line perpendicular to it is

m_{perpendicular} = - \frac{1}{m} = - \frac{1}{3}, hence

y = - \frac{1}{3} x + c ← is the partial equation of the perpendicular line

To find c substitute (3, 1) into the partial equation

1 = - 1 + c ⇒ c = 1 + 1 = 2

y = - \frac{1}{3} x + 2 ← equation of perpendicular line
