QRP is one of the tringles. It has a height of RS which is 6 cm. The base of the triangle comes from the square on the bottom of the diagram (and yes it is an optical illusion).

Area QRP = 1/2 * base * height

base = 8 cm

height = 6 cm

Area QRP = 1/2 * 8 *6 = 24 Oh that's where you got 24 * 4

There are 4 triangles that are the same as QRP so the answer is 24*4

The base of the triangle is included. It is just a bit disguised. It comes from the 24. Excellent question.
