Let x = amount of 70% juice we use.

Then 60-x = amount of 85% juice we'll use.

We'll set up an equation that is based on how much pure juice comes from each component and how much we need in the final mixture.

So 70% of x plus 85% of (60-x) must equal 80% of 60, or...

    0.7x + 0.85(60-x) = 0.8(60)

    0.7x + 51 - 0.85x = 48

    -0.15x + 51 = 48

    -0.15x = -3

     x = 20

Then 60 - x = 60 - 20 = 40

Check: 70% of 20 pints = 14 pints of pure juice.

            85% of 40 pints = 34 pints of pure juice

            That's 48 pints of pure juice in the mix, which matche 80% 0f 60 pints.

You'd need 20 pints of the 70% juice and 40 pints of the 85% juice.

Brad knows the answer to 5 multiplied by 7 how does this help him solve the answer to 8 multiplied by 7?
dimaraw [331]

Answer:

Breaking up the multiplicand 8 into (5+3) allows us to apply the associative property of multiplication.  See below.

Step-by-step explanation:

5*7 = 35.  We want the product 8*7.  Note that 8 = 5+3.  Thus, 8*7=(5+3)(7) = 35 + 21, or 56.

ra1l [238]
She earns $5.50 for every hour so:
m = 5.5h
3 hours and 45 minutes is 3.75 hours.
m = 5.5(3.75)

There are 52 weeks in a year. Ben has lived in london for two fifths of year. How many weeks has ben lived in london?
masha68 [24]

Answer:

\frac{104}{5} weeks or 20\frac{4}{5} weeks

Step-by-step explanation:

To do this we can set up a proportion

\frac{52}{1} *\frac{2}{5}

This will tell us how many weeks are in 2/5 of a year

Let's evaluate this

\frac{104}{5}

We cannot simplifiy this anymore, so we will leave it as an improper fraction, or a mixed number as shown below

20\frac{4}{5} weeks
