There were originally 80lb in the first box and 75lb in the second box.

The first equation describes the original weight in each box.
x+y=155
The second equation describes the weight after the 20 pounds is removed from the first box and added to the second:
x-20=\frac{12}{19}(y+20), because 20 pounds is taken from the first box, x, and added to the second box, y; and that makes the first box equal to 12/19 of the second one.
We now have this system of equations:
\left \{ {{x+y=155} \atop {x-20=\frac{12}{19}(y+20)}} \right.
We will simplify the bottom equation first by multiplying both sides by 19 to cancel the fraction:
19(x-20)=19(\frac{12}{19})(y+20)
We use the distributive property on the left, and cancel the 19 on the right:
19*x-19*20=12(y+20)
\\19x-380=12*y+12*20
\\19x-380=12y+240
We will move the 12y to the left side of the equation by subtracting:
19x-380-12y=12y+240-12y
19x-12y-380=240
Now we will cancel the 380 by adding:
19x-12y-380+380=240+380
19x-12y=620
Now our system looks like this:
\left \{ {{x+y=155} \atop {19x-12y=620}} \right.
To eliminate a variable, we want the coefficients to be the same.  We will multiply the top equation by 19 to achieve this:
\left \{ {{19(x+y=155)} \atop {19x-12y=620}} \right.
\\
\\ \left \{ {{19x+19y=2945} \atop {19x-12y=620}} \right.
Now we will subtract the bottom equation to cancel x:
\left \{ {{19x+19y=2945} \atop {-(19x-12y=620)}} \right.
\\
\\19y--12y=2945-620
\\19y+12y=2325
\\31y=2325
Divide both sides by 31:
31y/31=2325/31
y=75

Substituting this back into our original first equation:
x+75=155
Subtract both sides by 75:
x+75-75=155-75
x=80

Kelly has 4 times as many songs on her music player as Lou. Tiffany has 6 times as many songs on her
Novosadov [1.4K]

Answer:

113

Step-by-step explanation:

we need to know how much Lou has first !

so we have to do 682 / 6 which = 113

then 113 / 4 = 28.2

28.2 is how much Lou has

so we will go back and multiply the 4

28.2 x 4 =113

All direct proportional graphs go through the origin (0,0). So this is where one point could go. The second point is found by going up 5 units and then to the right 3 units to get to (3,5)

<h3>Draw a straight line through (0,0) and (3,5) to graph</h3>

The equation of this line is y = (5/3)x

I need help. What are the two numbers on the middle
Rina8888 [55]

Answer:

  Miles: 35; Gallons: 1

Step-by-step explanation:

The number of gallons can be any number of your choosing that is less than 12, which is the capacity of the tank. For the purpose here, 1 is a convenient number. To find the corresponding number of miles (m), you need to solve the proportion ...

  420/12 = m/1

  35 = m

  (miles, gallons) = (35, 1) . . . a suitable choice for the table values

__

<em>Additional comment</em>

If your sense of symmetry is offended by choosing 1 for Gallons, you can choose 10, a number halfway between 12 and 8. In that case, your proportion is ...

  420/12 = m/10   ⇒   m = 350

Then, your entry would be ...

 (miles, gallons) = (350, 10)

The grocery store charges $6.85 for 5 bags of potatoes.if someone bought 7 bags of potatoes, how much would it cost them
Hoochie [10]

Answer:

$9.59 for 7 bags of potatoes

Step-by-step explanation:

First you find the unit rate by dividing 6.85 by 5.

The unit rate should equal $1.37.

Then you multiply that and 7 which equals $9.59
