                                    2x² - 6x - 8 = 0

Factorize                      2x² - 8x + 2x - 8 = 0

                                    2x(x - 4) + 2(x - 4) = 0

                                    (x - 4) (2x + 2)

                 x1 = 4                      x2 = -2/2 = -1

                                                     

x2 = -1 is not and answer because there are not negative logs.
