In an atom, the electrons spin around the center, also called the nucleus. The electrons like to be in separate shells/orbitals. ... That means there are 8 electrons in an oxygen atom. Looking at the picture, you can see there are two electrons in shell one and six in shell two.

Oxygen has eight electrons . the first two electrons will go in the n=1 level . the n= 2 level can hold up to eight electrons so the remaining six electrons will go in the n=2 level . the election arrangement of Oxygen is ( 2, 6)
