Why does Edwards claim that nonbelievers are akin to spiders in "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God"?

English

Answer:

II. Spiders are powerless should a rock fall on them.

Edwards uses this comparison of non-believers to a spider to show that should God decide to send someone to hell, he or she does not have the power to stop it. Even if the non-believer felt assured and arrogant about it, he would still not have the ability to keep himself out of Hell. Option I is incorrect because Puritans, like Edwards, did not believe that any of God's creations were a mistake. Option III is also incorrect because the purpose is not to show the expendable nature of the spider, but rather the almighty power of God.

12345 [234]
In this excerpt, Charlotte and Mrs. Sowerberry are reacting to what the reader sees as Oliver's justifiable anger towards Noah. Noah most likely pours water on Mrs. Sowerberry because he misunderstands Charlotte. Charlotte's reference to creatures "born to be murderers and robbers" suggests that she is contemptuous of the working classes.

AnnyKZ [126]

Answer:

I believe the answer is:

A) The author presents a problem the characters face and its solution.

Explanation:

I believe it is A because it shows a problem about how they were trying to get to Thailand on a boat and were worried about pirates coming after them because of the two teenage girls and the mother. So the father took the five year old and the three year old so that they could travel to Thailand safely because the pirates wouldn't bother them if they only had two little children.
