The pulse check should be on the carotid or femoral artery.

CPR stands for cardiopulmonary resuscitation. It is a technique that anyone can perform on someone with cardiac arrest to keep them alive.

After Mr. Philllips shows signs of ROSC ( return of spontaneous circulation), which means that his heart is beating again, we can check his pulse in two different places:

  • In the carotid artery in the neck
  • In the femoral artery in the legs

The carotid and femoral artery carry a lot of blood to the brain and the legs, respectively. If we can detect a pulse in one of these arteries, it is a clear sign that the heart is beating well.

6. Why is the orientation of the muscles in the stomach wall important?
QveST [7]

Answer: The orientation of the muscles in the abdominal wall is important to enclose and protect abdominal contents.

Explanation: The anterolateral musculoaponeurotic walls are suspended between and supported by two bony rings; thoracic skeleton superiorly and pelvic girdle inferiorly, which are linked by a semirigid lumbar vertebral column in the posterior abdominal wall. This orientation enables the abdomen to enclose and protect abdominal contents while providing the flexibility required by posture, locomotion and respiration.
